FASHION TRENDS FASHION GALS TALK ABOUT NOW
And unlike other fashion gals who talk fashion like me, I made sure my fashion report is simple, straight and sharable. So, make sure you don’t keep it a secret and share my Spring Summer 18 Fashion Report with your squad next time you go out for brunch. Especially with your girl friend who, you know, isn’t really fashion forward one. You know what I mean. Oh, and mentioning the brunch, be sure to check here to see what to wear for brunch with friends this winter.
Anyway, make sure you pin my Spring Summer 2018 Fashion Report, or even better print it and glue it on the doors of your wardrobe to keep it close just like a cheat sheet. You know, fashion cheating is always in fashion.
SPRING SUMMER FASHION TRENDS LISTED
So here it is, my Spring Summer Fashion Trend Report with all the biggest, the most important fashion trends of the season. Oh, and those that only fashionistas know about now, but will be big at the end of the season. So, don’t say you didn’t know about the oversized hoodie dress and the bustier. Oh, not to forget, you can shop some of the looks straight from this report. Just click on the hotspots and a link will take you straight to the store where you can buy the items.
WHAT IS IN FASHION NOW?
I feel it’s time we discuss all the fashion trends that are in this season. To make sure you got all the fashion trends listed on my fashion report right. So, what’s in fashion now? As you can see, despite the stripes and ruffles, a lot has changed since the last summer. Perhaps, I should start with what’s not in the fashion anymore before I head on all that’s fashionable right now, don’t you think?
WHAT’S OUT OF FASHION IN SPRING SUMMER 2018
In short, off the shoulder, cold shoulder, chockers, hoodies (except the hoodie dress), skater, espadrilles, overly distressed denim (don’t get me wrong, slightly ripped jeans are still in fashion, yet the emphasis is on the slightly), fishnet tights, and finally the rose gold. Yes, that beautiful colour we all love so much is so 2017. But here is the blooming dahlia instead.
Honestly, I don’t think I will be ready to ditch rose gold until I get some chic new sandals that will replace my beautiful rose gold Stuart Weitzman sandals. Oh, and my dusty rose gold sneakers. Well, as it goes for my dusty sneakers (in case you forgot what sneakers I’m talking about, check them here), those could still go through, given they are dusty as the dusty shades are in fashion this year, but I lost them anyway. Don’t really know how this could happen. Whatsoever, back to what’s in fashion now.
ALL THAT IS IN FASHION THIS SPRING SUMMER
Yes, as I mentioned before, the stripes, pleats and ruffles are still in. But, well, you surely didn’t think there wouldn’t be a but, I mean this is the new season’s fashion trends we are talking about. But the stripes, pleats and ruffles are different this season. They are all more sophisticated and captured in the 80s. Yes, the 80s. The 80s are one of the major fashion trends this season. Anyway, more about this later. Let’s go step by step with the spring summer 18 fashion trends.
COLOURS THAT ARE IN FASHION NOW – SPRING SUMMER 18 COLOR TRENDS
Rather than talking a little bit of this and that, and then coming back to the first, I decided to take you through the Spring Summer 18 Fashion Trends like usual, systematically. Starting with the colour report of course.
So here it is, the Spring Summer 2018 Colour Report. Well, reports, as I couldn’t stack all the colours in one cheat sheet. Thank god we are not writing a test. Just imagine how many cheat sheets we would need. There’s no way we could go away without being caught.
THE IT COLOURS OF 2018
The fashion color of the season every fashion girl is wearing from head to toe from Monday to Monday this season. It’s fresh, it’s chic, it’s fun, and yet it’s sophisticated. Nevertheless, this shade of lavender catches tones of soft and romantic rose that charms us with its peaceful softness.
Made for drama queens, this thoughtful and provocative purple shade is the colour of the year 2018 for a reason. It communicates originality, ingenuity, and future. They say it’s what the world needs now.
The bold and lively Meadowlark, a confident and outgoing bright yellow shade highlights the spring 2018 season, glistening with joy and illuminating the world around us. Not sure what Pantone really thought with this, but all you need to know is that yellow is in fashion now and every fashionista will wear a yellow dress this season. Including me. Ps. Check how I wear my silky yellow dress on my Instagram.
Yes, red is still in fashion. Only slightly more orangey than the previous seasons. We could say it’s more alive than ever. The new, cherry tomato red demands attention and simply can’t be ignored. By the way, which red do you prefer? This one, or the one we wore in the previous season? I prefer cherry tomato. I mean how not to. After seeing these stunning pieces (in the widget below) I fall in love instantly.
Simply fresh, sharp and pungent. This colour will bring freshness on the hot summer days and brightness on the rainy spring days.
This beautiful bright blue sparkles with energy and will be perfect for rainy spring days and brunches with your friends in cloudy summer mornings.
CHILI OIL – BROWN
This shade of brown will undoubtedly add a flavorful depth to the spring 2018 palette. And could be worn in the evenings in summer 2018.
SPICED APPLE – DARK BROWN
It looks almost like the Chili Oil yet darker, with a more red undertone.
CHOCOLATE – EMPERADOR
My favourite shade of brown. Same as my hair. This rich chocolate infused brown colour will undoubtedly add the strength and luxury touch to the spring 2018 palette.
This sorbet rose is romantic and charming. Perfect for flirt. Just look at this bag. You can’t say it’s not flirting with you. “Buy me, buy me.” I told you.
LITTLE BOY BLUE
Happy to see it’s not baby blue. Yet not a surprise at all. Afterall we are more sophisticated this spring summer. And no, this shade of blue is not only for the little boys anymore. Honestly, I think it’s the most flattering and sophisticated light shade of blue. Besides, it gives us a promise of a new day.
This breezy, light green will bring a breath of fresh air and sweet touch to the spring summer 2018 colour palette.
ARCADIA – DUSTY EMERALD
Pantone says this is a cleaner take on green. And I agree. This sophisticated green with a blue undertone, that seems more like a dusty emerald is retro yet modern at the same time. Best for the shoes and skirts.
DUSTY FUCHSIA – SPRING CROCUS
I’m not really a fan of fuchsia, but the dusty fuchsia is a completely another colour. The Spring Crocus, or dusty fuchsia as I will call it, is witty and expressive and makes everything look charming yet inexpensive. So make sure you buy smart when it comes to this shade. I found some pieces that look expensive though. Well, this is because some of them really are. Ha, you know me, trying to be sassy and sparkle this spring summer fashion report. Still, I added some spring crocus or dusty fuchsia on a budget too. Find it in the widget below.
Or the new rose gold. Well, it seems rose gold is not entirely a thing of the past, doesn’t it? This beautiful and subtly mix of rose and dusty brown shade and a dash of peach will be the new rose gold. And you know what, I just realised my Stuart Weitzman sandals are actually a metallic blooming dahlia. Although, rose gold was a more sticky name, don’t you think? You know what, I might call this colour Metalic blooms or Metallic Dahlia. Sounds better, right?
They say this shade or rose is the grown-up rose gold. It’s sophisticated yet earthy. Do you like it? If colour itself doesn’t bring any affection to you, I’m sure these things in the gallery below will.
DUSTY WHITE – ALMOST MAUVE
Pantone calls this colour Almost Mauve, but who could remember this strange name. Let’s call it dusty white or off white instead. By the way, this is the way stores will categorize their products too.
CLASSIC COLOURS FOR SPRING SUMMER 18
I mean, what would summer be without the navy like sailor blue. No, this shade of blue is not the new black, but we will wear it like it was.
DOVE GRAY – HARBOR MIST
For me, this is the most beautiful shade of gray. As long as you keep it away from the linen.
WARM SAND – NEUTRAL
This beautiful neutral shade is perfect for transitional clothes and summer. Actually, I prefer to wear it in summer. Still, every fashionista needs a classic trench in this shade.
COCONUT MILK – OFF WHITE
Another off white colour yet slightly softer than the Almost Mauve. By the way, do you prefer Coconut Milk or Almost Mauve?
PATTERNS AND PRINTS FOR SS 2018 – SPRING SUMMER PRINT TRENDS
I’m quite sure a quick look at my Print and Pattern Spring Summer 2018 Report left you with the mixed feelings. One would say that any print is in fashion right now. But we all know it’s not that simple as it might look.
What would summer be without ice cream and floral prints? This year the floral print has gone vintage. All the way back to the 60s. Yes, spring summer 2018 fashion will be all about the 60s florals or wallpaper flowers as some call this print.
If last year was the year of stripes, 2018 is a year of dots. Polka dots will be a big fashion trend for SS 2018. From day dress, top, to shoes. Polka dot has a spot everywhere. But in what colour? Luckily polka dots are staying classic and chic in 2018. Go for black and white and navy. Navy dots on red are an option too, but believe me, sticking for classic is better when it comes to the dots.
Don’t worry, even though dots might become the star of the season, this doesn’t mean you should toss all of your stripped clothes. Because stripes are still in fashion. I told you this trend will stick for more than just a while. Although stripes became more fun this season.
As I said, stripes became more fun this year. And they have joined into the plaid.
GINGHAM or CHECKMATE
Gingham is still here. Yet not in my closet. Perhaps I give it a try this year. Although truth to be told I keep thinking this trend will fade away. You know what I mean? There are far too many more alluring prints there.
Like art prints for example. In short, Versace print. Surely you already know 2018 is a Versace year, read a year to wear art prints. Difficult to wear but a print that makes a statement for sure. The 80s and Versace 90s here we come.
A micro trend for now, yet a fashion trend that might become bigger by the end of the summer. In short, if you are not a fan of the bananas then go for butterflies.
Yes, the bananas. If 2016 and even 2017 were the years of lemons, 2018 is a year of bananas.
PALM BEACH and HAWAIIAN PRINT
No, this doesn’t mean men could walk around in the Hawai shirts. Palm beach prints are more sophisticated this year. Check the items in the widget below to see what I mean. Marc Jacobs and Gucci surely know how to make this trend.
I guess this fashion trend is not a surprise after all. While slogans are still in, they are slightly shaded by the logos. Every fashion brand wants you in its squad this year. In short, we wear logos everywhere in spring summer 2018.
Finally the opulent chinoiserie. You know those cherry blossoms on the red background, cranes over water and oriental floral wallpaper.
MATERIALS AND FABRICS WE WEAR IN SPRING SUMMER 18
TRANSPARENT, RAW, SILKY, SHINY AND SHEER
Everything seems clearer this year. Well, that’s because it actually is. 2018 is all about hiding under transparent fabrics and materials.Tulle has been in fashion for seasons now, and yet we still love it. Check how I wore my tulle skirt for a picnic here. From plastic shoes to the plastic dress. Spring summer 18 wants to be plastic fantastic.
SUEDE AND TWEED
Don’t look like that. I already showed you how to wear suede in the summer. In case you forgot or that blog post slipped away from you, be sure to check it again over here. As it goes to tweed, well I wear it all year long as well.
For tweed outfits go here. Ps. We are not twinning tweed with gramma this time. These outfits are way too sexy for granny to pull them off.
ALL THE FASHION TRENDS YOU NEED TO KNOW NOW
THE BIG 5 FASHION TRENDS 2018 SPRING SUMMER
ALL IN LAVENDER
If spring summer 2017 was all about all in red, spring summer 2018 is all about lavender.
THE NEW TRENCH COAT
Knowing me and how much I like to wear a trench coat, you must know this is my favourite fashion trend this spring. And as much as I love a classic trench coat I can’t wait to try the new trench coat. Ps. Keep reading to find out what this new trench coat looks like.
In short, the 80s are back. But luckily more sophisticated and more beautiful this time. Well, I’m still having second thoughts about those big shoulders. But I’m certainly all for the pencil skirt and stiletto pumps. Whatsoever find more about the 80s fashion trend over here.
Seems like that lavender jumpsuit I bought a few months ago was a smart buy. Yes, the jumpsuits are in this season. Long or short, romper or playsuit as long as it’s all in one piece.
THE BOLD SUIT
Oh, I have been waiting for this fashion trend since the last fashion week in Paris when I fall in love with that gorgeous Escada suits. Remember I wrote about those bold suits over here. Either in cherry tomato or in palace blue, bold suits are on. We call it the modern suiting. Boss lady rules boldly.
SPRING SUMMER 2018 SILHOUETTE TRENDS
Finally, the oversized silhouettes are over. Although wearing those oversized sweaters and staling looks from Victoria Beckham was fun, I can’t wait to wear tight clothes again. Yes, the mini and tight silhouettes are back.
Well, we certainly couldn’t adopt the 80s trend again without a proper pencil, could we? Be sure to check my favourite pencil skirts in the widget below.
My favourite silhouette. The mini. Pardon, the new mini. Mini is quite sophisticated this year.
Obviously, we can’t go away only with the mini skirts. Shorts are a must this season too. Best with the boyfriend blazer or a cool jacket. Suede bomber, perhaps.
THE 80s SHOULDERS
Sorry, but I don’t think you will see me wearing this fashion trend. Although thinking better, I did have a jacket in the lime punch with the 80s shoulders. I wonder where that jacket is now. I guess I tossed it years ago. But who knows, perhaps mother saved it. I definitely need to ask her about that jacket. Just out of curiosity. As there are way better pieces in the stores now. Who knows, perhaps I even change my mind over this silhouette.
Nothing new as cinched waist has been in for seasons now. What is different this time, is how we put our belt on. Keep reading to find out more.
No, not quite there yet. More about the new way of cinching your waist and how to wear belt later. The bustier stands as its own fashion trend. Surely you can wear a bustier instead of the belt, though I prefer it more on its own with a long tulle skirt (like at Dior). In short, boudoir dressing for day and night.
Of course, the high waist. I mean how could we wear anything else but the high waist. Not only this is so the 80s look, but it’s also the most flattering silhouette. Ps. I must confess, even if the high waist weren’t in fashion, I would still wear it.
Even though this season looks slightly more refined than last year, I mean the cold shoulders and excessively distressed jeans are out, the deconstructed silhouette is still in. Yet more or less only when it comes to the trench coats and dresses.
Again, blame it on the 80s. This year the long V cleavage is in fashion. Although truth to be told these deep V cuts look good only on skinny girls (read boobless girls like me). So what to do if you have curves, then? You can still wear these V cuts I found for you.
80s ATHLEISURE – WORKOUT GEAR
Even though the athleisure look is more or less 2017 fashion trend, even the track pants we love so much have become more sophisticated in silk this year, we still have a thing for athleisure. Whatsoever, only when it’s brought back from the 80s.
We all know details matter the most when it comes to fashion. Always. In short spring summer, 2018 fashion trends focused on the fringe, feathers, glitter, belts, socks, sequins, zippers, pockets, butterflies, bananas, and metallic details.
Fringe on silk? Bien sûr. Check my Instagram to see how I wear fringe on my yellow silk dress. Fringe is everywhere this season. Although perhaps not so much on the bottom line of the jeans.
Yes, feathers. You have seen me wearing feathers before. I even showed you how to wear this so-called haute couture piece as part of a casual outfit. Remember, with jeans and blazer over here. Anyway, I am wearing feathers this winter too. Be sure to browse through my Instagram feed to see how. Ps. That outfit is coming up on Brunette from Wall Street blog soon.
This trend is quite ironic given that the most fashionable bags of the season are the XL bold totes. By the way, you can find all the IT pieces of 2018 spring summer in my Spring Summer 2018 Shopping guide.
From jewels to feathers, and prints shoes are anything but boring this season.
METALLIC (GOLD PANTS)
As promised, few words on how to wear a belt this season. In short, let it dangle. The only thing you need to do is to secure your belt with the tongue buckle and let the excess material to dangle.
Read more about this trend in the Shoe
As said, ruffles are way more subtle this season. Reminding us of a butterfly. Yes, that’s the other part of the butterfly effect I talked about already. Remember, I mentioned butterflies are the animal print to look for SS 2018.
Same as the ruffles, pleats are more subtle this season too. Luckily! Imagine how we would look like wearing those big 80s shoulders and pleats at the same time. Horrendous.
Revelling yet covering all. Spring summer 2018 is a season of the tulle skirt and transparent shoes for sure.
JAPONICA MANDARIN COLLARS
SEQUINS AND GLITTER
The shinier, the better. In summer 2018 we wear sequins from the morning, till well, you know, the next morning.
As I mentioned before, the IT fashion fruit of the season is a banana. And no not only printed. We can find bananas everywhere this season. From jewellery to bags. Everywhere!
SPRING SUMMER STYLE TRENDS – THIS IS HOW WE STYLE OUR OUTFITS IN SS 2018
Even though the monochrome trend has been in fashion for over 40 years now, we still love to wear it. And guess what, monochrome is in fashion in spring summer 2018 again. This season you can choose between two different monochrome outfits. You can either go bold or pastel.
Surely, the all in red (well cherry tomato for SS 2018) is still in fashion, but the IT bold monochrome look for spring 2018 comes in yellow. Pardon, the lime punch and nil green. Well, as long as it’s yellow.
However, for the evening the most fashionable bet is to go for all in sailor blue.
Don’t worry, if you are slightly more romantic or just not so bold to be wearing bright colours, then you can go for pastels. And pretend to be the sorbet or sweet ice cream. Just don’t come close to me, you know how much I love to eat ice cream. Well, unless you invite me for a scoop or two. Better two, then. Anyway, check these beautiful pastel pieces in the EDIT.
COLOUR CLASHINGS (ORANGE+RED)
Remember how we wore the colour clashing trends in 2017? In case you forgot about all of my tips on how to wear this trend, be sure to check it here. Nevertheless, if 2017 was all about clashing red and pink, the red got a new crush in 2018. In short, its pink and orange for spring 2018.
MIX PRINTS (FLORALS + POLKA DOTS, PLAID, ART)
Another styling trend that will be big this season is the print mix. Mix all the prints you can find. Remember I have done this last year already. Ahead for precisely a year. Check here if you forgot. As I said, mix all the prints that are in fashion right now. Put on a floral blouse, a plaid skirt, polka dot shoes and blazer with the art print. Don’t look like that, I will show you how exactly to do this in one of my future blog posts. And on my Instagram quite soon. So be sure to follow me there too.
One of my favourite fashion style in 2018 is definitely the sharp tailoring. You know how much I love to wear a blazer. I mean a blazer is part of my on the go looks. Especially the boyfriend blazer and tux. I love the clean, modern silhouette on the one side and double-breasted blazers on the other side. Also, the slim silhouette is quite promising this season. Especially when it comes in bold. Long are those grey boring sharp suits.
Go here to see how to wear plaid oversized tailored blazer.
Or should we better say luxe pyjamas? Because this is what we think when we talk about the relaxed suit in 2018. The luxe, silk pyjamas.
The big ruffles are so 2017. 2018 is all about the gentle pleats. Barely to be there. I already mentioned this when I wrote about what to wear for brunch with your friends last fall. Go and check it out here. Most of those 5 outfits are still in fashion now.
Again the 80s. For all of you, the 90s b* (hey, I wanted to say blonds and brunettes), who don’t know, Asian influence, though Japanese, was there in the 80s too. Especially the kimono. Which happens to be very fashionable in 2018 again. Together with the opulent chinoiserie, I mentioned earlier.
Multi pockets, multi zippers and fanny pack. Oh and cargo pants. Seems like we are off to the construction site.
HAUTE COUTURE DENIM
As seen at Chanel denim became haute couture this season. From bejewelled denim jacket, denim day dress, chic denim shirt and dark denim jeans, denim is all the sudden couture.
The secret of how to actually look good in western, cow girl outfit is not to wear it head to toe. Put on one western piece and style it with something chic and sophisticated. Sometimes you don’t really need more than chic and elegant sandals you wear with your evening gown.
What we are talking about is a palm beach glamour from the 60s. Turbans, kaftans, turbans, Hawaiian-tropic prints, and sorbet colours mixed with some bold hues.
In short sex up while still cover up. The boudoir dressing is all about looking sexy without revealing too much this year. I love this style. Especially the long sheer tulle skirt and bustier as seen at Dior.
SOCKS + SANDALS
Seems like we can start wearing sandals already. All we need to do is to find some chic socks, and off we go. Well, you don’t even have to look further. I found the most fashionable, the IT socks of the season for you. Check them in the gallery below.
