Here it is, another blog post about What NOT to Wear to the beach. This time it’s all about what not to wear to the romantic date on the beach. After all this sand in my sandals and the feeling, why the hell did you have to drag me here, knowing I’m wearing this beautiful silk dress and my favourite sandals. Plus have my hair done. Surely, you could have told me before.
OUR ROMANTIC DATE AT SUNSET ON THE BEACH AND MY FAUX PAS
I can’t believe I ended up wearing sandals on the beach twice in the row (and then again, to take these photos). After I almost twisted my ankle walking in the heels on the rocky beach after the night of clubbing (in case you missed, be sure to check it here) I swore I would never wear heels to the beach. Any beach. But I swore too soon because a day after my friend took me to a romantic date on the beach.
As romantic as it could be as I had to remove the sand from my sandals all the time. Until I finally had enough and asked him to carry me back to the car. If only he had told me before he is planning something special on the sand, or at least brought a pair of beach appropriate shoes for me.
HOW I ENDED UP BEING OVERDRESSED
The thing is that I was sure he would take me to the fanciest restaurant by the beach, with a smart causal dress code. So I dressed appropriately for a date in that restaurant. I certainly didn’t expect him to be so romantic to plan a romantic date at sunset on the beach.
In short, I did it almost all wrong. While this asymmetric silk dress was a great choice to wear to any romantic summer date, either to the restaurant (thanks to the silk) or to the beach (thanks to the shape and floral print), my shoes and hair were not on point for this date. Not to say anything more I looked over dressed.
But lesson learned. And now is up to me to give you a lesson, too, so you won’t make the same mistake as I did. And show you some other more beach appropriate outfits you could wear to the romantic date at sunset on the beach.
Ps. The photos were not taken at the date. But the day after when it came up to my mind, I could write about my faux pas. So I put on the same outfit like the evening before, did the same thing with my hair and went to the sand beach to take the photos. Although this time I made sure I didn’t do more than few steps. I mean all this sand on my sandals. And in my hair. Don’t ask how it ended up there.
By the way, you saw me wearing this dress before, on my first picnic on the beach over here. You have also seen me in these sandals before. Don’t even count how many times. But the last time over here together with the shirt dress.
WHAT NOT TO WEAR ON BEACH DATE
I guess you figured out by now, sandals are a no no on the romantic date at sunset on the beach. Well unless you are not really into the guy or he is simply too boring and you prefer playing with your shoes all date long.
Anyway, as it goes to the shoes, same rules apply here as to the wedding on the beach I wrote in my previous blog post here. You shouldn’t wear any shoes that you can’t walk in the sand or rocks. Or that are not easy to take off. Because face it, unless you wear wedges, there will be sand in your shoes no matter what you do. So better wear shoes that you can take off, get the sand out and put on instantly without your date to notice at all.
In short, nothing that will make you look overdressed or even underdressed. Well depends on the type of person your date is. But the main concern, however, should be not to dress too smart.
Learn from my mistake and don’t wear your hair up like I did. Beautiful beach waves are the best choice for the beach date. Just imagine how good I would look with my hair down. With a few spritz of my favourite summer hair saver, the Salt Spray from Balmain Hair Couture (get here), my hair would be beach perfection.

WHAT TO WEAR TO THE BEACH DATE AT THE SUNSET
So, not to say only what you shouldn’t wear to the beach date at the sunset, here are some of my style ideas that you should definitely try this summer.
FIRST DATE OUTFIT
Starting with the outfit, you should wear to your very first date if he takes you out to the beach. The key here is, however, the makeup and hair. Go for natural look and style it with some chic outfit.
CASUAL DATE ON THE BEACH
Even you have been together for ever and going out like every single evening, you should carefully choose your outfit. But you know, in a French way.
PICNIC ON THE BEACH
Since picnic outfits, especially beach picnic outfits are surprisingly hard to master, I dedicated a special blogpost just about that. See it here.
ROMANTIC DATE ON THE BEACH
This is the outfit you should wear when you get the feeling that this date might be it. And he will propose you to marry him at sunset while watching the waves hit the sand on the beach.

You know, summer hasn’t ended yet. And I bet there is at least one romantic date on the beach you will need to get dressed for this season.
By the way, what’s the most romantic date you have ever been to? I still haven’t been to any romantic date that would take my breath away. Wait, I’m not honest. This beach date at sunset did take my breath away. Yet not because I would be delighted or thrilled. But because I was so irritated having all that sand in my shoes. Anyway, I do hope someone will take me to my dream date one day. Up to the sky at sunset with a balloon. And I already know what I will wear then.
