Did Black Stop Being Chic?

And How to Wear Beige on the Street Now

What colour comes to your mind when you hear word chic? Let me guess … black, right? But guess what, any French woman will tell you that black is not the only chic colour there. Wait, I’m not saying black has suddenly stopped being chic. But for the sunny summer day, your should swap black for beige. Besides, beige is fashionable now. Just not under this name.

Looking at my Spring Summer Fashion Report and Autumn Winter Fashion Report, you can see beige is in fashion this season. Admittedly, we don’t call it beige anymore but Warmsand (summer 2018), or Almond Buff and Tofu (autumn winter 2018/19).

Nevertheless, beige is still beige, and it is a classic colour that never goes out of style. Like never! I guess the number one reason why is because everyone French loves it. Parisian love beige. And so do French women in the South of France. Not mentioning everyone who wants to be French. Including me. Well, I’m 1/4 of French, so beige is already in my DNA.

HOW TO WEAR BEIGE IN THE CITY

Anyway, regardless of the chic French mood captured in the earthy hues, beige reminds me more of a safari, mountains or countryside then of Paris. Truth to be told, you can put on any outfit in this earthy shade, and your outfit will look appropriate for safari, mountain or countryside.

Tested and proved! Just check here to see how I wore this outfit for a hike above Bled the other day. See? I told you. One could easily say this outfit I’m wearing today is a legit hiking outfit. Minus the mules and the pink purse of course.

However, making beige work for the street is not as easy as French women want us to think. Surely it’s easy to pull off a classic camel coat in winter (go here to see how I wore my camel coat last winter). But a beige monochrome for summer in the city? Not as easy.

YOU NEED BLACK AND POP OF COLOUR

So how to style beige for the city then? Best with something black and dazzling. I styled my coconut milk crochet top and tofu linen shorts with black embellished mules and pink top handle bag.

See the EDIT below for more details.

TUFU LINEN SHORTS

Do you know what colour are my linen shorts? According to the colour chart that you will find in my Autumn Winter 2018/19 Fashion Report, they are tofu. Tofu beige. Well, I added the beige. Anyway, tofu beige or just tofu these linen shorts came as a set with the linen crop top, the one I wore for the picnic on the beach here and also with the black crochet midi skirt here.

Unfortunately, that set is already sold out. But since tofu and all the other earthy hues are never out of style (read out of stores), I found several similar linen paper bag shorts for you. Find them all in the widget below. Or save you time and shop these.

COCONUT MILK CROCHET TOP

What a name for a faded beige, right? Although coconut milk does sound better for the colour of this crochet top that I’m wearing. You can get a similar top, only with long sleeves, from See by Chloé over here. It’s on sale now (-60 % OFF), and you can get it for 124 EUR.

BLACK MULES

As said you need to add something black to your otherwise beige monochrome outfit. I’m wearing black slippers. Who would thought you can wear black shoes with tofu linen shorts so that it actually looks good, right?

Ps. Go here to see how I wore the same black mules with white shorts.

PINK TOP HANDLE BAG

Lastly, something dazzling. As so many times before I’m wearing my staple pink top handle bag. But you could well wear a blue bag. In Nebulas Blue to be exact.
