Who Said You Can’t Wear Anything Black for a Wedding?

Prooving You that You can Wear Black With a Winter Wedding Guest Dress for a Winter Wedding

No black for a wedding is a rule, we all should follow if we are a wedding guest, right? Well, guess what? I know a way to obey this rule and wear black for a wedding. A winter wedding. Of course, not a black wedding guest dress. Nor a monochrome black wedding guest outfit. But a black blazer over a winter wedding guest dress. Some black is better than nothing, right? Scroll down to see how to wear some black with a winter wedding dress for a wedding this winter.

I get a commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

If you like to wear black as much as I do, then for sure, you were thrilled when you read the title and introduction and found out that you can wear black for a wedding in winter, weren’t you?

Clearly, you will be less thrilled, once you will figure out that it’s not a black wedding guest dress that I had in my mind. Still, something black is better than nothing. Especially if that “something black” is a black blazer which makes all the style tricks a black wedding guest dress would.

HOW TO WEAR BLACK FOR A WEDDING IF YOU ARE A WEDDING GUEST

So how to wear black for a wedding if you are a wedding guest and don’t really want to offend the bride by wearing black to her wedding?

For sure, this is a tricky question if you think about a black dress as the only option to wear black for the wedding and look chic. After all, we all want to wear black for a wedding to look chic, and feel confident, right?

Except, a black wedding guest dress is not the only way to wear black for a wedding.

You can wear a black blazer over a colourful wedding guest dress instead. Trust me, you will feel as chic and as confident in a black blazer over a pastel wedding guest dress as you would feel in a black wedding guest dress.

Especially if you copy my winter wedding guest outfit from heels to hairpins. Just make sure that the black blazer you are about to wear for a wedding, is made from jacquard that’s woven with flowers or a luxurious pattern.

SHOP THE BLACK BLAZER AND A BLUE WEDDING GUEST DRESS AND WEAR MY WINTER WEDDING GUEST OUTFIT

To copy my winter wedding guest outfit, you need to get all the clothes and accessories first. Don’t forget you need to get a black blazer made from jacquard.

Don’t worry, I found a black jacquard blazer for you. Three, as a matter of fact. Plainly to make sure you can afford to wear black for a wedding in winter. As you will see, one blazer costs slightly above $1000, other costs under $500 and the third is actually really cheap and costs less than $100.

BLACK JACQUARD BLAZER IS PERFECT TO WEAR OVER A WEDDING GUEST DRESS IN WINTER

Again, it’s important to get a black blazer made of jacquard if you want to wear black for a wedding. Not only because it’s easier to style a black jacquard blazer than a plain blazer but because jacquard makes the blazer more special. And somehow more appropriate to wear to a wedding.

You can get a similar black jacquard blazer to the one I’m wearing for as little as $80 over here.  Although, it should be noted that the best match to my black blazer is this black jacquard blazer from Dolce & Gabbana that you can buy here.  Another prominent black jacquard blazer is this one from Pinko that you can shop here. Trust me, it’s the best value for price blazer you could find.

LONG BLUE WEDDING GUEST DRESS

Surely, you know the long blue wedding guest dress that I’m wearing from before already. You have seen me wearing this Self-Portrait dress for a wedding in spring and also for a wedding in summer. If you don’t recall, I wore it as a morning dress for a wedding in summer.

This Self-Portrait dress (buy here) is truly the most versatile wedding guest dress that I have. It can even be worn in two different ways. As a long wedding guest dress with short sleeves or as off-the-shoulder long wedding guest dress. It’s your choice. I wear it both ways, depending on the season and the location.

BLUE PUMPS

As you can see, I styled my black and blue winter wedding guest outfit with blue pumps (shop here) for an indoor winter wedding. If it snows or it’s freezing, better wear one of the boots or booties from the gallery below.

By the way, the blue pumps I’m wearing are from Gianvito Rossi, and you can get them here. Not sure if they still have them in the same colour, though, but it’s worthy of a click.

BLACK BAG

Last but not list, if you want to copy my look, you will need a little black clutch as well. Here are some affordable and some black designer clutches you can wear for a winter wedding that match a black jacquard blazer. By the way, a boxy clutch is out of style for 2020. But, as you will see once you browse through the widget, I added two fashionable alternatives as well.

Ps. Since you are breaking one rule already, there is no need for breaking another one and matching your bag with the shoes for a wedding this winter.

WINTER WEDDING GUEST HAIR AND MAKEUP

Finally, the hairpins and winter wedding guest makeup.

The rumour is that pearl hairpins won’t go out of style anytime soon. Nevertheless, check all the other barrettes available for you to wear for a winter wedding in my hair accessories trend report, as well.

As it goes to the makeup – focus on your eyes as I did. The black smokey eye is back in style. But so is this other eye makeup that wedding guests like to wear for weddings in winter – check it out in my eye makeup trend report.
