Is this sweater new? Peut-être. Well, not really. Nothing from what I’m wearing here is new. Not the camel sweater, not the off white double-breasted coat, not the ankle boots nor the jeans. This everyday winter outfit is old. But it does look brand new, doesn’t it? Here is how to wear your old basic sweater and jeans like they were new. Yes, that old knit sweater too.

Even though I can’t really say this winter feels like it was here for ages, it does feel so long since I bought this camel cable knit sweater. Remember how I wore it with my vinyl pants in autumn? Anyway, I feel I have had this sweater for ages now. You know what I mean. It feels so old. And I got this urge to get a new sweater and a new pair of jeans. But you know what? I’m not getting a new sweater nor a new pair of jeans this time. I decided to simply wear both as they were new. Sounds strange? Well, let me share a secret with you!

HOW TO STYLE YOUR OLD KNIT SWEATER LIKE IT WAS NEW?

I actually got this tip from my chic French friend. You know, one of those fashionable French girls, who always look like they were wearing something new. But really don’t. Anyway, she told me how she styles her old basic clothes to make them look brand new. And no, the key is not in details nor the new bag. Far from that.

In fact, you can go out wearing your old clothes and old makeup, yes, even the makeup, and look like you were wearing everything new. So how to make your old clothes, old shoes, old bag and everyday makeup look new? Like you just got them? Simply by following these tips …

Wait, before we head on my tips on how to wear your old wardrobe classics like you just bought them, a little stop. We do need to stop at my chic, casual winter off-duty outfit.

NOTHING NEW JUST MY FAVOURITE EVERYDAY WINTER OUTFIT

Indeed, this is my favourite everyday winter outfit. Well, you could tell that. Especially if you ever spotted me walking down the streets of Ljubljana or in Paris. I’m pretty sure you saw me wearing this same sweater and these dark blue jeans. Maybe only a pair of different shoes since I have so many ankle boots, but the same coat for sure.

Anyway, the is the outfit I wear on the go, whenever I can. Read on my off-duty days when I’m not in a hurry. You know I have a special on the hurry everyday outfit, right? Remember, I wrote about it just the other day. It’s quite similar actually, only smarter and office-like.

Whatsoever, it’s this casual wardrobe classic outfit we are talking about. Ps. This outfit is great to wear from October to May. Yes, this is the mid-seasonal outfit you have been looking for. The wool makes it just right. You know warm in the morning and not too hot when the sun finally comes out.

I found some classic pieces that are similar to the classic clothes I’m wearing here. Trust me, all these pieces are must-have clothes. Some are one of those you will be able to wear forever, and some or those that are so cheap that are simply a must buy. And yes, those on the budget sweaters can actually last quite long. Tested! MY EVERYDAY OFF-DUTY OUTFIT

So what am I wearing and where to shop my outfit? I’m wearing pastel double-breasted coat from Weekend Maxmara (shop similar here), a camel cable knit sweater from Max Mara, dark tapered denim jeans from A.P.C. (shop here or get similar for only €46.29 from Topshop here or if you are from the US here).

As it goes for the shoes, I’m wearing my favourite sock boots from Elena Iachi. But you should buy Balenciaga’s square toe booties instead. I’m getting Balenciaga square toe booties, too.

Anyway, back to my everyday winter outfit. I finished my look with a white shoulder bag. Not with a Dior bag though, but you can get your Dior bag here.

#3 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR OLD SWEATER LOOK NEW

So how to make your old sweater look new and your outfit always fashionable. Well, yes, everything new should always look fashionable too, right? Or at least stylish. We will go for stylish this time. As this is a mid-seasonal classic outfit. Ps. If you want to check on the outfit that is always, I mean it, always fashionable, check capsule winter outfits. Ups, did I say it was just 1 tip? Well, there are actually 3. After I got that tip from my French friend, I decided to dig in this, and à la fin came up with #3 tips that will make your staple outfits look new. And no, no laundry & wool detergents included. Although having a good washing machine and the right detergent helps too. I learned my lesson in Montreal. Only one thing, do not wash your favourite clothes in dorm laundry!

Anyway, about taking care of your clothes another time, first comes first.

WEAR YOUR OLD CABLE KNIT SWEATER LIKE IT’S BRAND NEW BY FOLLOWING THESE 3 TIPS

#1 STLE IT WITH DOUBLE-BREASTED WOOL COAT

Yes, it must be a double-breasted wool coat. Why? Because it’s the most elegant outwear. And you must style your old sweater with something elegant if you want it to look like it was new.

#2 GO FOR LIGHT COVER AND DARK BOTTOM

Regardless the colour of your sweater, although I still think the camel is the one to wear, you should style it with something dark and something light. To make sure your sweater stands out in between. The best way to do this is by wearing a light pastel coat or light jacket and dark bottom. And of course a white bag and black shoes. Well, it seems that accessories do matter after all. But what is worth you don’t need new ones.

#3 WEAR IT WITH EDGY CLASSICS

This might sound surprising, but you should actually wear your old sweater with classics instead of something new and trendy. Remember, it’s the sweater you want to make it look like new. So match it with your wardrobe staples. In short, with the basics, you have had for years. But not any basics. Only the edgy ones. Like my indigo straight cut jeans or pair of square toe ankle boots.

#* GET ACCESSORIES AND RED LIPS

Finally, if my #3 tips don’t do much, just get some accessories and red lips. A new bag never disappoints, right? Well, in case not even a bag does its work, then get yourself a dog. Isn’t this one just adorable?
