This is What You Should Wear When Running Late
This is what You Should Wear When You know You Will be Catching the Bus Again
Running late? Again? Oh, dear, I feel you. Especially if you were planning to wear a skirt and heels today. But hey, don’t worry! Take a deep breath, put on your mini tweed skirt as planned and grab your new hiking boots. Yes, those hiking boots you just bought recently. Because hiking boots are just the shoes, you should wear when running late. And here is how.

Let me guess; you came to Brunette from Wall Street looking for a quick tip on what to wear when running late. As you have to quickly find some other outfit since you know you won’t be able to catch the bus in heels and mini skirt. And your favourite jeans are in the washing machine while pants nowhere to be seen. Plus you lost ballerina flats under the bed again. And your damn sneakers happen to be dirty even though you washed them not so long ago.
Well, you came to the right place. Now, as said, take a deep breath, and put on that adorable floral shirt and mini tweed skirt, just as planned. Then put on your fancy double-breasted coat and grab hiking boots. Again, hiking boots. Yes, those hiking boots with chunky heels. I told you, these are the heels to wear when running late. Because you can actually run in these. Tested!
BECAUSE FASHIONABLE LATE IS NEVER LEGIT
I was just like you so many times before when I was running late. Cringing at the thought of swapping stilettos for sneakers and skirt for pants. Not because my sneakers and flats were dirty and jeans in the washing machine. I always have my shoes polished and waiting for me on the bottom shelves of my dressing room and a pile of jeans and at least five pants I could grab on the go.
But the thought of letting my stylish outfit for another time only because I’m afraid to run in stilettos was just not something I could cope with.
Nevertheless, for the sake of my ankles and all the bones, I would have never wear heels when running late. And would rather waste another minute or two to swap the entire outfit and wear sneakers (well mostly wedged Bobby sneakers) just to make sure I don’t break a leg or get those looks when entering the room too late. You know, those looks that say she is late because she doesn’t know how to walk in heels?
Anyway, I’m writing all this in the past tense, because this is not the case anymore. No, not anymore. At least not this winter when hiking shoes are the IT shoes of the season.
WHAT TO WEAR WHEN YOU ARE RUNNING LATE
Yes, hiking boots with chunky heels are the high heel shoes to wear when running late this winter. Not only are these hiking boots with chunky heels fashionable and safe for running (thanks to the hiking hoots that ensure a comfortable fit and chunky heels that don’t slip). But are easy to dress up as well. Who would thought you can dress up hiking boots, right? Yet, as you can see, it’s possible. When you wear your hiking boots with a mini skirt like me, of course.
SHOP AND WEAR MY STYLE
So how to dress up hiking boots when running late then? It’s all about the details, materials and colours this time. Don’t worry, I put everything you need to know in the fashion cheat sheet below. Just make sure you save, pin and print it. Oh, and don’t forget to share it with your friend who is always late. Especially if you are the one giving her those looks.
Not to forget. This fashion cheat sheet is linked to the product pages of all the items as well. All you need to do is to click inside the pink brackets, and a link will take you to the store where you can shop the item you clicked on.
Want to know more about my running late outfit? Ha, how good I know you! Letting you know more about this ladylike outfit in a bit.
HIKING BOOTS
Starting with the hiking boots since these fashionable winter shoes are the star of this chic ladylike winter outfit. I’m wearing See by Chloé Eileen ankle boots (shop here) in nubuck calfskin. These hiking boots come with cool, chunky heels and metal hiking hooks that ensure a comfortable fit. And therefore let you run wearing them without hurting your ankles and breaking your leg.
By the way, you have also seen me wearing these hiking boots with skinny jeans over here. Yes, you can wear these fashionable winter boots with skinny jeans as well.
TWEED SKIRT
I’m wearing a mini tweed skirt from Storets (last time seen here). You can get a similar skirt in lime yellow over here. Or get a mini tweed skirt with a front zip (which will be very fashionable in spring) here. Furthermore here is a link to the store page of that mini tweed skirt you saw in the fashion cheat sheet above.
Who would thought you can wear hiking boots with a mini skirt, right? I sure didn’t. Probably because I have seen far too many hiking boots and mini skirt failures. Well yes, you can go so wrong with this combination. Especially if you wear tartan plaid and dark hiking boots with wool socks. Even though sometimes lovely on school girls, that outfit is not something grown-up women should wear.
If you wear a mini plaid skirt and hiking boots, make sure of these two things. First the material and style of the skirt. Which should be tweed and simple straight fit. And second the colour. Which should always match.
FLORAL BLOUSE AND DOUBLE-BREASTED COAT
I styled my hiking boots and mini skirt with a floral shirt (shop somehow similar here) and my off-white Weekend Max Mara double-breasted coat (shop Max Mara coat here).
Mentioning the coat, I wear, have you read my coat trend report already? Be sure to check it out as well. It’s over here.
LADYLIKE ACCESSORIES YOU NEED TO WEAR WITH HIKING BOOTS
Lastly the ladylike accessories. Which aren’t really a must in my case since I’m wearing a plaid skirt and a floral shirt. But are nevertheless needed due to the cold weather. There is no way you could see me out in the street without gloves (shop my pink gloves here) these days. Or the bag when having running nose.
By the way, do you still remember what is in my bag in winter? I have shared the content of my bag with you once. Over here, in case you missed. Well, I’m still carrying all those things in my bag. Plus my Invisalign case and this new mini Foreo Issa play sonic toothbrush that was on my gift guide for girls who don’t like makeup.
MAKEUP
Writing about the makeup, I’m wearing my easy everyday makeup again. And yes, this metallic eyeliner from Marc Jacobs Beauty is my everyday eyeliner. I simply can’t imagine going out without a metallic line around my eyelids anymore. If I were allowed to wear only one makeup, it would be this eyeliner. Now, when I don’t need brow crayon since the baby eyebrow trend, of course. Ps. Read more about this makeup trend here.
