If you are anything like me, you are already planning your next tea party. And you already know the menu. Pov the tea menu might be challenging during the spring fatigue, but you can always ask for a spring blend that will bring you up at your tea shop.
But what to wear for afternoon tea in spring 2025 to be the best dressed? Well, you can follow the standard dress code. Remember, afternoon tea is not a high tea. Afternoon tea is a low tea and a daytime formal event that has a standard dress code.
The standard afternoon tea dress code is explained in the Afternoon Tea Dress Code Guide – published on Brunette from Wall Street Substack – exclusively for Brunette from Wall Street Substack paid subscribers.

Pov, every time girlies see me at my favourite cake shop, they get into their car and knock on my door. And with all the sandwiches I have to make in like – 10 minutes, there is little to no time to put on a proper morning dress. It’s much faster to put on a modern afternoon tea outfit.
Anyway, here are the best spring afternoon tea outfits 2025 you can wear for a garden tea party this spring or a spring tea party in the salon.

Now enough with chit-chat – leaving it for the tea party. Let’s take a look at spring 2025 tea party outfits.

SPRING OLD MONEY AFTERNOON TEA PARTY OUTFITS
Moments with a dress code demand an equally thrilling new look. Tailored and belted styles cinch in the waist, while fluid fabrics craft an elegant figure in motion as you walk your way to the tea table.
1 BUTTER YELLOW MORNING DRESS WITH BLUE SATIN PUMPS AND PEARL HAIRPINS
Picture yourself in a full midi skirt that sways gracefully with each step, paired with a delicate floral blouse that whispers of spring gardens. True, you are not in the garden, but in the ladies’ tea room – freshly painted in trendy cherry-coded red and furnished with vintage pieces you found with the help of an expert.
The cropped butter yellow tweed jacket adds structure and sophistication, creating a silhouette that would be at home in any aristocratic tea room. You are at home though. Pov, in my home. But let’s make it about you. Honestly, I don’t know what role to put you in yet – do you want to be my guest or me?
Let’s go for the second plot. It’s much easier for me to write about the feelings and the scenery a host feels as I experienced it recently.
Anyway, the plot. Let’ start with the tea.
The walls glow in a rich crimson hue that reminds you of ripened cherries. The afternoon light streams through tall windows, throwing a warm glow across the space and making the red walls pulse with life. And the black tea table is gleaming with a mirror-like finish that reflects the delicate porcelain pieces arranged upon it.
The green satin sofa looks super comfortable with its deep emerald tones next to the swan on the side table, while the dark rose chairs are always everyone’s favourite place to sit.
But it will be you who gets to sit on the chair this time – you are the hostess.
You lift the porcelain teapot, its quite heavy, so be carefull not to spill the tea. That’s what the girlies will do as you begin pouring hot tea into each cup. The sound is almost musical – a mild melody accompanying the visual dance of tea cascading into your bone chine. Steam rises in delicate spirals, carrying the complex aroma of your carefully selected spring blend.
You offer the first cup to your best friend, who smiles and says, “That butter yellow is so you.”
But everyone is staring at the three-tiered stand. On the bottom plate, finger sandwiches you made before the guests arrived. The middle tier showcases golden-hued Viennese whirls, you baked yesterday. And on the top tier the prettiest dessert’s yet – a carefully curated selection of petits fours that mirror the room’s elegant color scheme. Macarons in subtle shades of rose and cream, Ispahan, delicate meringue kisses – white as the swan by the sofa, and a small mousse cake that exactly matches the room’s red hue.
The soft red walls glow warmly as spring sunlight streams through the windows, and the faint scent of roses wafts from a nearby vase.
Starting at the bottom tier, you offer sandwiches to your guests. “Please, help yourselves.”
“I want mousse cake,” your cousin says, reaching toward it.
With a bright smile, you step forward, “Sandwiches first.”
She pouts playfully, her hand hovering mid-air.
The guests around the tea table lean in, taking sandwiches and drinking tea. But your cousin just won’t drop her look off the cake. Then, her hand twitches – just a flicker of movement
2 AIRY BLUE MORNING DRESS WITH MATCHING TOP KNOT HEADBAND AND BLACK HEELS
Now this time it is you who wants to have a cake first.
You try not to look at the upper tier and take the cake just yet. Pov, you are a host, so it’s your rules. But, you are the host. So you lift the heavy teapot, and start pouring tea to the girlies and finally to yourself. The sound of tea pouring is giving ASMR.
Tea poured, you turn your attention to the sandwiches on the tiered stand before you. You take the sandwich plate out and place it on the table.
Waiting patiently for everyone to get their sandwich before you get to grab the last one left. Is it with salmon? I bet it is. You made sure to place it the closest to you. You lift your plate, hold the sandwich with your fingers and take it to your mouth. One small bite, after another and before you know, your eyes are already at the Viennese whirls.
Btw we don’t eat scones in this part of Europe. Viennese whirls are more to our liking. *Don’t get fooled by the name. Viennese whirls are an English invention, too. But their taste is what we like more than scones. Also, they are easier to bake and less messy to eat.
And you don’t want the jam to land on your precious blue morning dress.
3 PINK MORNING DRESS WITH PINK STILETTO PUMPS
Spring calls for pink, and this tea outfit answers with authority. The light pink double-breasted jacket commands attention, while the dark pink faux leather midi pleated dress beneath adds an unexpected edge. The pink suede pumps complete the tonal story, creating a look that’s both powerful and feminine.
SPRING MODERN TEA PARTY OUTFITS
When the invitation with no dress code arrives, and you know your host doesn’t know the afternoon tea etiquette, look to modern tea party styles that bring the demure. Like a luxury boho dress or something in butter yellow tweed that strikes the perfect balance between traditional and contemporary.
4 MINI LUXURY BOHO JACQUARD DRESS WITH LACE TIGHTS AND AIRY BLUE BLOCK HEEL SLINGBACK PUMPS
Imagine the soft spring light catching the intricate patterns of your jacquard dress, the puff sleeves adding a touch of romance to your silhouette.
The white lace tights peek under the dress, creating an ethereal effect that’s both modern and luxury boho. The blue mid-heel patent leather slingback pumps click softly against the marble floor as you make your way to the tea setting – no wait, we will wear this outfit to a garden tea party.
So, you are in the garden, and you sink into the comfortable garden sofa, feeling the gentle give of the cushions beneath you. The light breeze tickles your skin, carrying with it the scent of petit fours in front of you.
5 SEQUIN WHITE TWEED DRESS WITH LONG SLEEVES AND OPAQUE TIGHTS WITH BLACK SLINGBACKS
Ok, so maybe it’s raining and you are having your tea inside again.
Energetic pops of colour channel a fresh energy for springtime dressing, but elements that shine are made for the spotlight. Lean into sequin tweed in white for your next big event. *Extra points if you are a bride and this is your bridal tea party.
If it is not, just pair with opaque tights and step into black shoes.
6 BUTTER YELLOW TWEED MINI DRESS WITH CHERRY LACQUER KITTEN HEEL SLINGBACK PUMPSAND BOW HEADBAND
For those who dare to embrace a more contemporary approach while maintaining the elegance of afternoon tea, this butter yellow tweed mini dress speaks volumes. The short sleeves and clean lines create a modern silhouette, while the cherry lacquer patent leather kitten heel slingbacks add an unexpected pop of color that feels fresh and playful. The bow headband in matching butter yellow and transcendent pink ties the look together with just the right amount of whimsy.
Now, imagine sunlight filtering through the cherry blossoms, dappling your skin with a soft glow. The air is crisp and fragrant with the scent of fresh blooms and new grass. You wear a semi formal butter yellow dress that is giving, and a delicate fascinator that adds just the right touch of formality for a 2 pm tea.
You carefully arrange yourself on the low sofa, smoothing your tweed dress as you sit. As you adjust its position, you catch a faint scent of the clean jacquard napkin, mingling pleasantly with the spring aromas surrounding you.
You run your fingers along the napkin’s edge.
The fabric catches the light, creating a sophisticated play of shadows. Your kitten heels crossed at the ankle, you reach for your teacup with the confidence of someone who knows they’ve struck the perfect balance between tradition and trend.
Then, you turn your attention to the 3-tier stand before you.
You point to the Viennese whirls next. Trust me, Viennese whirls are so much better than scones. They melt in your mouth. Also, it’s more practical to serve Veineese whirls in the garden.
Later, you offer a plate of petit fours to the girlies. They all go for macarons with a gleam in their eyes. “These are beautiful,” one says. “Sure they are. You brought them from Paris!”
*Now, this is a hint for you, my dear. Bring macarons, please. And Moët & Chandon Rosé Impérial. We need to make our next tea party spectacular.

Accessories can play a vital role in completing your look. Think about fascinators, silk headbands and delicate hair clips. Footwear can also be an accessory; opt for elegant slingbacks or chic patent leather pumps that complement your outfit.
