While we are only one month apart from the beginning of the Autumn/Winter 2017/18 fashion week, I thought I should start my first fashion memo this year, with the bra top, the essential piece of the season. That will, following its conquer of the runway last fashion week, undoubtedly rule the streets as well in the next few months.
I love the bra top as it brings a new wave of feminity and ease. I feel it teases me with the fresh energy of spring and lightness during the cold and dark months. Though we often have to cover it under the thick layers of clothing. Especially in the extremely cold winter, that is coming to us right now.
Regardless the winning position on the catwalks of the last fashion month, there is a long way ahead of the bra top. As fashionable as it is, it also happens to be the most challenging piece of the new season. Well, at least for most of the girls.
Even though the bra top might looks like the crop top at the fist glance, it is far more unique. To make it clear, you are placing your lingerie on display when wearing the bra top.
The thing with the bra top is that we can’t simply put it on and wear it everywhere. While it will keep fashionistas seasonally and occasionally relevant during the fashion week, I can only wish you good luck with the bra top if you are a fashion forward girl living in an ordinary environment.
As said, you can’t just put the bra top on and wear it as it is anytime and everywhere. This is an exaggerated silhouette that we are talking about. And despite the dominance of the exaggerated silhouettes over the daywear this season, embracing all the drama that comes with the bra top is not as simple as it was with the crop top.
Luckily, I do know how to embrace most of that drama and wear this type of top as the statement piece of clothing. Or turn it into an accessory that either replaces the jewellery or elevates a simple dress.
Anyway, let’s embrace the top bra step by step and start slowly. It is only the beginning of the new year after all. And you certainly don’t need to stick your new year’s resolution by point. Meaning you don’t need to become that new person straight away, in the first week of the new year.
HOW TO WEAR THE BRA TOP
AS SEEN ON THE RUNWAY
Fortunately, we can bring many of them straight from the runway and adopt them as a part of our style. True, it sounds easier than it really is. Well, at least for the majority of girls who spend most of their time on the way between home and work space.
In the first place, we have seen the bra top slightly peeking out from under the blazer and bomber jacket or being completely revealed under the sheer blouse or a veil. Also, we saw models wearing the bra top as the top layer. Above the blouse or a shirt. I believe this will be everyone’s favourite way of wearing the bra top in the first few months of the year. It certainly beats the horrendous t-shirt and long sleeved shirt combination. Unlike that one, the combination of bra top and shirt looks fresh, feminine and stylish. Something I certainly approve of and look forward to wearing this season.
HOW TO STYLE THE BRA TOP
Of course, you can embrace the bra top as part of your new year’s style straight away by recreating the looks from the runway. I decided to take a different approach to this style, though. So, I wore the bra top as an accessory to my New Year’s Eve party dress. As part of an outfit that perfectly combined my favourite fashion trends of 2016 and the fashion trends of 2017.
As you can see, I styled the triangle bra top with a black double-breasted coat, a dark floral mini dress, gloves and ankle boots. At first glance, you might don’t even see this beautiful lacy bra top I’m wearing under the dress. It feels like it’s part of a dress or as I wanted a piece of accessory.
WHAT KIND OF BRA TOP TO WEAR
As I mentioned before this tiny top is not merely a shorter version of the crop top. It is a bra above anything else. As you can see if you take a quick look at my Pinterest board Lingerie on display (link here), most of the bra tops come either in a triangle or bandeau shape. The embroidered or lace triangle shape is especially romantic, bringing a new demeanour of femininity. Different from the triangle bra top, the bandeau top gives a tomboy touch and a chic careless feel.
Then there is also a simple, plain bra top for an extra casual look. Hence this bra top often comes in white colour it takes as straight into the summer, skipping the cold days.
WHERE TO GET BEST BRA TOPS
You might need some extra time to find the perfect bra top that you could wear on display now, at the beginning of the season. Is worth mentioning again, this trend is new and will hit the stores probably after the first New York fashion week in the mid-February. You know, after fashionistas flood the streets wearing nothing but lingerie under the bomber jackets.
I did, however, find some fabulous bra tops for you. Most of them come from the brands that adopted the see now buy now strategy and from the lingerie brands obviously. You can find out more about the selection of my favourite bra tops simply by clicking on them.
In case you were wondering where I got my bra top. The one I’m wearing in the photos is from Maison Lejaby. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the photo of the dress I’m wearing as a flat lay, so I decided to post a similar dress. Still, you can contact me for the link to the dress I’m wearing in the photos. As it goes for the shoes, I’m wearing Burberry shoes from the last season. I found similar at Burberry and also at Saint Laurent.
