You Were Right When Being Sceptic About Shopping Online

#6 Reasons Why Shopping Online is Bad for You

You were right when being sceptic about online shopping. Yes, I actually wrote that. Your second thoughts about shopping online are legit. Well only when they are not. I’m breaking down all the good and the bad sides of online shopping this time. Plus sharing some pretty useful shopping tips. It’s time for my Tuesday shopping tips after all. Besides, it’s sale season, and I thought you should know how fashion IT girls shop now.

Still surprised about the title of this post? Yes, I actually mean that. Online shopping can be bad. And no, I don’t mean bad for your bank account. There are a few other things that throw a bad mark on online shopping. Although truth to be told, all of those are totally unharmful since the security measures for online shopping became quite effective in recent years.

And yes, that friend of yours who keeps saying how bad shopping online is, secretly loves shopping online. She says this just because she wants to go with you to the shopping mall.

BAD SIDES OF ONLINE SHOPPING

So why I gave you right for having second thoughts about online shopping? Just check the list below, and you will see.

#1 YOU CAN’T TAKE YOUR FRIENDS OUT ON A SHOPPING DATE

Starting with this one even though is not really a legit bad side of online shopping. I mean you can shop online while drinking a cocktail with your girlfriends, can’t you?

Mentioning a date with your girlfriends, here is what Carrie Bradshaw and her squad would wear for a coffee/shopping date this season. Also go here and here to see what I wear for brunch/shopping date with my friends.

#2 NO ONE WILL GIVE YOU A FREE GLASS OF CHAMPAGNE

While I can’t say there is no real shopping experience when shopping online, you will miss a free glass of champagne while swiping through the product galleries in the online store. But then again, when did you get a glass of champagne in Zara or other high street stores? Ps. Let me know if you did!

#3 YOU CAN’T FLIRT WITH SHOPPING ASSISTANTS

I’m sure my friend Eva would list this as first. I remember her flirting with that shopping assistant while I was trying to pul on some chic but ultra tight jeans in Paris. Well, he was handsome. But I really needed help in the wardrobe.

#4 YOU WON’T GET TO SEE A HOT GUY AND HIS BICEPS WHILE CARRYING YOUR SHOPPING BAGS

Mentioning guys, if you shop online your favourite part of shopping gets out of the shopping process too. With no shopping bags, there is no need for a hot guy to carry your shopping bags. Surely, you can call him over to help you bring the boxes to your wardrobe. Every step counts right? And the way from your front door to your wardrobe can seem long if you have hands full of packages.

#5 YOU DON’T BURN EXTRA CALORIES

With online shopping you can forget about that quote: “Shopping is my cardio!”. Sorry to tell you, but clicking on the mouse or moving your finger over the screen won’t burn your calories. And you might need to purchase a ticket for the gym too.

#6 YOUR LEGS WON’T GET SWOLLEN, AND YOU WON’T HAVE AN EXCUSE TO BUY NEW SHOES

Lastly, you will need to find another legit reason to buy yourself some new shoes. You won’t be walking around the stores all day long. Hence your legs won’t become swollen, and you won’t desperately need to put on new comfortable shoes.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST A CLICHÉ

So these are all the bad things about online shopping that came up to my mind. Wondering why I didn’t list those cliché reasons you heard so many times about online shopping? Like online shopping is bad because you can’t try on the clothes and you can shop the wrong size? Or it’s dangerous because your credit card can get stolen? Well, I didn’t because all of these are nothing but a cliché.

You can buy clothes and shoes in the wrong size at the brick and mortar store too. My sister is a good example of this. She always comes home with shoes that don’t fit her and clothes that don’t comply with her style. I guess she takes a short walk to the mirror and back on the rug (Ps. Never do that). And she gets influenced by the shopping assistant who is not a stylist and shopping assistant in one person.

In case you were wondering what happened to your new shoes on your way home so that they became somewhat uncomfortable, let me tell you nothing happened to the shoes. Your shoes were never comfortable. It was the rug that made your shoes comfortable when you tried them on in the store. Those rugs on the store floor are there just to make sure you will feel nothing but comfort while trying on the shoes.

GOOD SIDES OF ONLINE SHOPPING

I promised to share some of the good sides of online shopping earlier. But since there are so many, I decided to write another post just on this topic.

Nevertheless, mentioning few of them now. Just to make sure you will know what to say to that friend of yours who keeps shading online shopping.

#1 IT’S MORE COMFORTABLE

Wait, this is not the cliché shopping from the sofa good side of online shopping. What I mean here is actually the “trying on” part of shopping. Where if not at home would trying on your new swimsuit be more comfortable? Order, get, try on and if it doesn’t fit merely send back!

#2 IT’S FASTER

Yes, shopping online it’s faster too. And no, not only because you won’t waste extra time on getting ready (you know 2 hours for the makeup and then another hour choosing the outfit), but because you can get your packages delivered faster than you would imagine.

Not sure if you know but luxury online stores like Farfetch and Net-a-porter offer same day delivery. Unfortunately, only in some cities, but the chances they do deliver you your package on the same day are quite high. But do check the delivery options before making the purchase. I don’t want to be the one to blame if you don’t get that dress on time for the big day.

#3 IT’S CHEAPER

If you haven’t noticed that, online shopping is cheaper than brick and mortar shopping. And no, not because you don’t have to take your friend out for lunch after a successful shopping spree. Well, actually this is one of the extra costs of the shopping you don’t have when shopping online too. But it’s not the only one.

Regardless of the shipping costs that may apply (not in my favourite online stores, though), online shopping is as said cheaper.

If you haven’t calculated your shopping expenditure like an economist so far, let me list just a few extra shopping costs of your brick and mortar shopping. Ps. those are so-called opportunity costs.

In short, if you shop online, you don’t spend money for gas or uber as your fingers slide over the screen for free. Also, you don’t spend any money on your makeup as you don’t need to put it on when shopping from your bed. Nor washing powder as your clothes don’t get dirty of sweat since you won’t be walking around the city. Well, you know what? Forget this. You will need washing powder and a wiping tissue since I’m pretty sure you will spill your coffee after you see all these things on sale!

MORE GOOD SIDES OF ONLINE SHOPPING AND MORE SHOPPING ONLINE

Do I even need to write more? Don’t answer that. I will write more good sides of online shopping. But another time. Afterall you don’t need more reasons for shopping online. Especially not after you see what’s on sale now!
