While May Day is here and the most romantic month has finally begun, I couldn’t help myself not to wear and moreover not to do something undeniably romantic this weekend. So I dig into my closet, grab the yellow long tulle skirt, a striped crop top and ran outside to the field of dandelions. To sit in the grass, blow a ball of plumped dandelion seeds and make a wish. Well, thousands of wishes to be honest.
This time my weekend style was all about embracing the new colour and that careless feeling and happiness you feel when you blow a ball of plumped dandelion seeds on a May Day. It turns out that all you really need is one dandelion, one blow, and one wish. Well, and the right outfit, too. In yellow, of course.
WHAT TO WEAR ON MAY DAY
I guess May is the best month to finally make a twist to your style and start wearing some summer colours and light, sheer materials. For sure, everyone has been wearing tulle dresses in the last few months, including me, remember how I wore the nude tulle Zara dress on the streets month ago (you should check it again over here and here)? But now, on a May Day, we are slowly ditching nude tulle dresses for exciting, bright, yellow tulle skirts.
Surely, swapping nude colours for bright yellow shades is not an easy way to update your style, especially if you are not into bright colours at all. But if you are a true fashionista, you know, embracing a splash of bright colours is a must this season. Keep reading to find out how to embrace yellow. Ps. Grab a pen and a notebook or simply print out my fashion cheat sheet from bellow; before you continue reading. Because I’m about to share an important tip on how to wear a yellow outfit this season. But first more about the tulle.
Well yes, the tulle stays. After all, this is the it material of the season. Or should I rather say of the year? In the end, it’s been here for months now (remember the nude tulle dresses from Dior, my dream wedding dress on the spot, everyone was wearing to the last Haute fashion shows?) and isn’t going anywhere for quite some time. Ps. In case you have been living on a deserted island with no internet in the last few months and missed this fashion trend, open this blog post about all the fashion trends you need to know this year. It will open in a new window so make sure you check it later after you finish reading this post.
You know what they say, there is room for only one queen. And while dandelions gave up golden yellow colours to become a white ball of wishes you will be blowing this May Day, it’s your turn to shine out bright in yellow now.
HOW TO WEAR YELLOW THIS SEASON
In short, you can wear yellow in two ways this season. Firstly, head-to-toe. Yes, yellow is the new IT monochrome shade. Secondly, like I do. Meaning, as something sheer, long, light, yet still powerful enough to take over your outfit.
No matter the way you wear yellow this season, there is only one thing you must remember. Don’t be tempted to swap in black accessories. You don’t want to look like a little queen bee, right?
You should wear the yellow outfit with more colours instead. Or even better retro prints. Or like I do, with pink and red stripes. Ps. Keep reading to find out more about my outfit.
MY MAY DAY OUTFIT
I get a commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.
On this May Day, I’m wearing a long yellow tulle skirt from Needle and Thread, a pink and red striped crop top from the House of Holland (you saw me wearing the same crop top over here and here) and my new fabulous sandals, that I’m keeping as a secret for now. Well, you can find them in one of the galleries in this blog post. So be sure to browse through the products and try to find them. I wonder if you can guess which sandals I’m wearing. Write your answers in the comments below.
Honestly, I’m not wearing any accessory with my sandals, cropped top and long yellow tulle dress, this time. Not that I would be afraid of being tempted by black accessories, but simply because it would be rather hard to blow thousands of dandelions while carrying a bag. Or even to spot a dandelion with the shades. Anyway, I found some beautiful accessories that go well with the yellow outfit and won’t make you look like a little queen bee. You can find them in the gallery above.
I admit I’m still holding back with the spring makeup. While yellow is the it colour when it comes to makeup this spring too, I’m still sticking to my more or less day to day makeup. I guess spring festival is a perfect day to be bold and wear bright yellow eyeshadows. But if you want your outfit to pop out, I advise you to swap yellow for gold and orange as I did this time. Or even better, bronze. I did lots of blending with the eyeshadows. Apparently too much for you to see all of the colours I’m wearing. However, that pink and blue shades from M.A.C. Cosmetics are too hard to resist.
Anyway, if you are going for all or nothing this spring festival, then I advise you to put on yellow eyeshadows. I found some nice hues of yellow shades for you. You can find them in the gallery above.
As it goes for my lips. I’m wearing a blend of three different lipsticks (find them in the gallery above). The thing is that I simply couldn’t decide what colour to wear and I kept putting one shade after another. And somehow ended up with the same shade as the one on my crop top. Pure luck, I guess. Or match made to rock.
MORE LOOKS TO WEAR TO THE SPRING FESTIVAL
The spring festival season and moreover the wedding season is open now and I bet there will be plenty opportunities for you to wear romantic tulle outfits. In yellow or any other colour. But certainly with some stunning accessories. Yes, I’m pointing to the hats, hair accessories and charming jewellery here.
