And the most magical time of the year has finally arrived. The Christmas season or better say Holiday Season is here. Are you ready for all the December parties, gifts, baking Christmas Cookies, decorating Christmas tree … Wait! Do you know how to decorate your Christmas tree this year and what to wear to the Christmas Dinner and holiday office party? No? Don’t worry I have you covered on this! My Christmas Trend Report and Magical Holiday Guide are here.
I must admit, even though we celebrate Christmas and all, we haven’t decorated a Christmas tree for years in our family. Why? For two reasons actually. First, because we don’t like to take down the Christmas tree and cleaning all that Christmas decoration once the holidays are over. It’s kind of depressive, and no one wants to do it. And second, because we never really know what Christmas decoration is in fashion. You know what I mean. No magazine ever shares all the Christmas trends in one place.
Anyway, I decided to take action this year, and find all the Christmas trends and share it with you in one place. Just like I did for the Fall Winter 2017/18 Fashion Trends over here. Remember? Only this time, I’m going even a step further and posting everything, seriously everything, you need to know this Holiday season. From what kind of colour should your Christmas tree be this year, what gifts should you put under the tree for each and every one in your family, what to wear for all the parties this December, to which Christmas markets to visit and where to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
So, are you ready? Then let’s set up the Christmas tree, light the candles, put on the red lipstick and sparkly dress and make the Holiday season begin.
WHAT’S IN FASHION THIS CHRISTMAS
I get a commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post. You can shop everything in the photos simply by clicking on the item. The link will take you to the store.
THE MOST FASHIONABLE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
Starting with the most important and fun part of the Holiday Season, the Christmas decoration. Apparently, Christmas trends follow the fashion trends when it comes to decoration. (If only I knew this all these years.) So there is no surprise to see Christmas Trees in pink, red, rose gold and all the natural colours from the Fall Winter 2017/18 Colour Pallete this year.
MAGIC CHRISTMAS COLOUR REPORT
As said, along with the classic red and gold, Christmas colours follow fashion trends. So the most fashionable colours of Holiday Season are red, gold and natural shades, pink, green, grey, purple and blue.
Given all the colours that are in fashion this Christmas and holiday season, we can combine our Christmas decoration, well and the stocking stuffer too, in 4 different themes.
#1 PASTEL FAIRYTALE
Starting with my favourite the pastel fairytale with the pink and rose gold as the two leading colours.
You can add to this pastel pink and rose gold decoration either a touch of gold or a touch of silver. I will probably add some silver to my holiday design.
As said, the pastel fairytale comes with the pink and rose gold as the two leading colours. This pastel fairytale has two different plots. The golden one and the silver one. The rose gold pastel fairytale shines in pink, rose gold and golden glitters, while the silver pastel fairytale ends with white and cold pinky tones.
#2 CHRISTMAS GREENERY
After being a colour of the year, the greenery is a number one colour when it comes to Christmas decor, too. Style it either with dark natural shades and gold. Or light blue and silver to create a magical forest feel in your home.
#3 CLASSIC CHRISTMAS
Not to say anything else, there is no Christmas without the red and gold. In short, you can’t get wrong with classic red and gold palette. The warm tones of red bring everyone back home by the fireplace. And the gold smells of butter and just backed Christmas cookies.
#4 MYSTIC EAST
The most magical Christmas decorations come in colours of the East. Deep blue, emerald and purple with a touch of gold will bring a touch of magic yet elegance into your home. And peacocks.
In short, when decorating your Christmas tree this year, you should look for garlands, baubles, and lights in the colours you see in the Christmas Trends Cheat Sheet above. You can guess what my Christmas tree will look like this year. Yes, it will be pastel pink, with red and rose gold ribbons. By the way, you do know tinsel is downmarket, right. If you want your chic, elegant home to stay so during the December Holiday Season, then don’t get lured by the tinsel and all that kitschy Christmas decoration.
GARLANDS, BAUBLES AND VINTAGE DECORATIONS
It’s time to finally toss all that old plastic baubles and tinsel, and go to your grandma’s attic and look for her old wooden and glass Christmas ornaments. Well unless the Nutcracker turned into the prince already. Or you simply find all that fragile family Christmas ornaments in pieces, you should take that precious ornaments and hang them on your Christmas tree.
Ps. If your family doesn’t have a special collection of ornaments that would pass from one generation to another, then be sure to be the one who starts this tradition. Find some beautiful Bride’s tree glass ornaments you will pass on your grandchildren one day in the widgets. By the way, do you know what’s the story behind the Bride’s tree ornaments? Ps. Stella, you two need to add these ornaments to your Christmas tree.
GREEN, BLUE, WHITE, REAL, PLASTIC – WHAT SHOULD THE CHRISTMAS TREE BE LIKE?
There’s no doubt if you want your home to look chic and elegant this year, then go to the greenhouse and get a natural Christmas tree. Don’t worry about chopping the trees out of the woods. You can get a tree, borrow actually, that was planted in a pot, and return it back after the holiday season. Moreover, even if you can’t borrow a tree or buy a tree that was planted and grown just to become a Christmas tree one day, you should get a real, natural, real pine anyway. Chopping a pine does less harm to the planet than artificial, fake Christmas tree made of PVC, steel and polyurethane foam by children somewhere in China.
As it goes to the colour of the tree. Do I even need to repeat, Greenery is the colour of the year? Go for green.
There’s actually only one rule when it comes to the table decoration this year. Less decor, more food. Don’t overload your table with the candles, flowers, wreaths or any other kitschy decorations and colourful tablecloths. If you must, then decorate with one central piece, that is low enough so everyone at the table can see across the table. And is foremost natural centrepiece.
Ps. Don’t forget about the Christmas crackers to brighten the dinner table with a traditional joke.
PILLOWS, FURNITURE AND OTHER HOME DECORATION
Decorating home for holidays doesn’t stop only at the Christmas tree and wreath. Be sure all of your home decor matches the Christmas palette.
OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATION
No kitschy, plastic Santas climbing onto your balcony, please! Nor lights shaped in animals in front of your house. The only elegant and acceptable outdoor Christmas decoration are simple and small white lights. Note, they should be white. And you can put them on a tree in front of your house.
The Christmas wreath should always be real and follow the theme from inside of the house. Be sure to find how to match your door wreath with the Christmas tree in the EDIT – Christmas Cheat Sheet above.
GIFTS UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Now that your home is all decorated it’s time for the best part of the Christmas. The gifts of course.
