While Bank Holidays are coming to an end and you are going back to work any time now, this is the best time for you to update your working attire and put on your power suit, which happens to look more relaxed yet way more stylish and powerful than before. You know our mantra, we are all superwomen. And those striped wide-leg pants with a blazer will make you feel like a superwoman all day long.
There is a new suit in town, well, as a matter of fact, there are four types of new suits in town. And today I’m showing you how to wear the most fashionable one. And yes, it’s striped and once for a change relaxed.
First things first. Before anything else, I need to remind you, that a modern suiting doesn’t need to be matchy-matchy. The only thing that truly matters when it comes to business style this season is that pieces are in the same spirit and you can wear them everywhere. Meaning from the street to the office and back. There is no need for you to waste any time going back home to get change before meeting your friend for some drinks after work. Or even worse, bringing some extra clothes to work so you can get changed before you leave.
Don’t get me wrong; standards haven’t changed not even for a bit. Business dress code is still in play, and we are still wearing a suit to work. What has changed is that suits are so fashionable right now that everyone wants to wear them (Ps. in case you are not on track with all the fashion trends of the season, you must check this blog post over here). From deconstructed to feminine, relaxed and belted. Suites are everywhere now. But do they suit everyone? Honestly, I’m not sure about that. However, this relaxed suit that I’m writing about today, for sure suits every woman. Regardless the age, status, and yes even the height. Who would think wide-leg pants can actually give us some heights instead of shrinking us?
As said, today it’s all about the relaxed suit. Perfect suit to wear after coming back to work after some days off, right? However, despite the early 1980s ease that comes up to our mind when we think about the softly tailored suit, the modern, relaxed suit is different now. It’s all feminine this season. And even the boyfriend blazer that is a must here doesn’t make the masculine prevail the feminine. Truth to be highlighted, women are more powerful and confident now. Especially when we go for this nonchalance style.
The message of this relaxed suit that I’m wearing this time is undoubtedly clear. Nonchalance and powerful all the way. And all thanks to these striped wide-leg pants that I’m wearing. But more about my nonchalance business outfit later. First, more about the glamorous striped wide-leg trousers.
STRIPED WIDE-LEG PANTS
I know I don’t need to mention how fashionable stripes and the wide-leg pants are this seasons. Even better when together. Surely saying the striped wide-leg pants are all sounds so cliche. But it’s so true. Although they can be tricky to wear if you are not tall as a model, they go well with everything. Well, at least in my case.
So far I have styled my striped wide-leg trousers with a dark trench coat (in case you missed that outfit go over here), with a long thin white trench coat and with the bomber jacket (check both outfits on my Instagram).
And this time, I’m styling them for work, too. You know what I mean. If we can wear striped wide-leg pants with everything and everywhere, why not wearing them to work, too. After all, together with a blazer, they work great as a relaxed suit. Remember, trousers and blazer don’t need to match to work as a suit at all. I told you modern suit is something you must try on. And that nonchalant French feeling. No words needed. We are hooked on stripes.
HOW TO WEAR A RELAXED SUIT
Again, parts don’t need to match. You can say you are wearing a suit even if the trousers don’t match the blazer. As long as they both are tailored and in the same shades. It’s not even necessary that both of them are softly tailored. As a matter of fact, it’s better when the blazer is not softly tailored. Though in a fashion that 80s vibes are not all in for the business style. You know what I mean?
In brief, to make your softly tailored wide-leg pants look like a part of a suit, you must style them with a boyfriend blazer. A long boyfriend blazer to be clear. Honestly, I find the blazer that I’m wearing here slightly too short. I guess it would work better if it was longer or at least the bottom edges weren’t rounded. Still, being my favourite black blazer, I couldn’t resist wearing it. This jacquard pattern goes so well with the stripes on the trousers. By the way, I wore the same blazer with the feminine suit over here and here when I was in Paris for fashion week.
Back to the relaxed suit and striped wide-leg trousers. Although platform shoes are a big no-no when it comes to the business style, we can make an exception here. Actually, platforms or at least very high heels are a must under a wide-leg pants if you are rather short. Don’t worry no one will see the shoes you are wearing. So technically you are not breaking the business dress code at all.
SHOP AND WEAR MY STYLE
I’m wearing Michael Kors striped wide-leg pants that you can get here, black jacquard blazer, white silk shirt from Sandro, Michael Kors platforms and small black tote (you might recognize the tote from the blog post about chic business style in pink sneakers and dark mom jeans over here).
