While I couldn’t go to the Cannes Film Festival this year, I decided to bring it to me and have my moment of glam in this gorgeous black gown on my own, in Piran, Slovenian Riviera with a film history. Although you might be late for Film Festival in Cannes you are still on time for a film festival in Piran and in Venice, which happens to be only a stone throw away from Piran. So, better start choosing what to wear to this gala event, now.
WHAT TO WEAR TO A FILM FESTIVAL
I love dressing up for gala events. Especially when they take place in iconic cities like Cannes. Although I’m not off to the French Riviera this week to attend Cannes Film Festival, I couldn’t resist not to share some of my tips on what to wear to a glamorous film festival. After all, a film festival is coming to Piran, or should I rather say Cannes Piran in this fashion story, quite soon, and afterwards, there will also be the Venice Film Festival. Not mentioning now is the beginning of the wedding season and proms, and knowing what to wear to a black tie event is essential now.
In short, think of white tie or black tie (depends on what the invitation says), luxury accessories, diamonds, clutch bags and heels, when getting dressed up for a glamorous event like a film festival in Cannes or Venice, to be clear, a red carpet event. And think of black tie when getting dressed for a film festival or even for a wedding in a historic city like Piran, that reminds you of a famous city on the Côte D’Azur.
WHAT TO WEAR TO CANNES FILM FESTIVAL AND VENICE FILM FESTIVAL
If you hurry up you can still come on time for the last days of the Film Festival in Cannes. Don’t worry I’m here to help you save some time finding your perfect red carpet dress. Browse through the gallery to find the most beautiful and stunning gowns, shoes and jewellery. As it goes for the bag, I honestly, don’t think you should even have one. But still, if you can’t live without a bag, then a luxury clutch is what you need. Almost forgot to mention the shoes. Embellished sandals and shiny pumps are on for the red carpet. No suede, no canvas, no chunky heels and absolutely no chunky heels or wedges. Ps. Mind the fashion trends to be contemporary and stylish. WHAT TO WEAR TO PIRAN FILM FESTIVAL
Although times, when you could have seen Sophia Loren and other famous actresses and actors wandering through Piran, eating in the most luxurious restaurants in Slovenian Riviera or walking to the film studio in Piran are long gone, dressing up for a small film festival in Piran is a must. However, be careful you don’t turn up overdressed. Tone down your look with a small bag or shoulder bag instead of a clutch. And wear your hair down. Go for either a sleek or seaside hairstyle. As it goes for the shoes, sandals are what you need. No, chunky heels or wedges. You can wear suede, when mixed with something posh, though.
Check the gallery bellow and above to find what to wear to a glam event in old, used to iconic, but now almost forgotten cities, with remarkable architecture and vivid history. Ps. You don’t really need to splurge on everything you wear. My selection might surprise you. You know you can look divine on a budget, too. Keep reading to find out how.

HOW TO SAVE ON YOUR BLACK TIE OUTFIT
Although much easier, you don’t need to splurge your money on your black tie outfit to look stunning on that special evening. Surely, if you are a girl like me, who loves to shine on a special evening and look splendid in her evening dress, you know being there, at the gala event, will cost you some money.
GET YOUR FORMAL OUTFIT FOR LESS AND LOOK LIKE A MILLION
Fingers crossed you didn’t pull all your strengths and spend all your money when calling the never ending list of “friends” to get an invitation. Or fashion-god forbidden didn’t go that beneath yourself to actually buy the invitation in some hidden alley. Anyway, if this is somehow a thing, then you must remember my tips on how to go gala on a budget.
9# TIPS TO GO GALA ON BUDGET
1# Borrow your evening dress
Believe it or not, you can wear a designer gown and not break your bank. Neither need to rob one. Simply head on to Rent the Runway, find your dream designer gown, and borrow it. Check my favourite gowns from Rent the Runway in the gallery bellow.
2# Buy second hand
This one will cost you more, but hey, you can keep the dress. The best place to get a pre-owned designer dress? The Real Real, obviously. Check the gallery bellow to see my favourite gowns from there.
3# Get your budget dress trimmed
Any dress can look a million bucks when it suits you just perfectly. Believe it or not but seamstress can do magic even to a $10 dress. My advice, get a dress from high-street store (check my favourite ones in the gallery bellow) and take it to the best seamstress in town. Let her check the stitches, and trim the dress for you.
Find my favourite high street evening dresses in the gallery bellow.
4# Add luxury accessories to your budget gown
Either borrowed, second-handed or new. A luxury accessory can save a budget outfit. Check my favourites in the gallery bellow. The one to rent are at the end.
5# Splurge on heels
This one is important. No matter how much you paid for your dress, splurge on your heels. Firstly, because you don’t want to risk the pain or a broken heel. And secondly, because you can wear them again. And again. Every day actually. Luckily it’s sale time, and you can get your Aquazzura sandals and Jimmy Choo’s for less than $300. No, this is not a fake news.
6# Pamper your skin and hair every day before the gala event for 14 days
Don’t forget about your skin and hair. Your skin and hair is your best accessory. So hydrate and nourish your skin for days before the event.
7# Do your own makeup and nails or have it done at the department store
This is if you already have a stock of luxury makeup at home. You know, having your makeup done by yourself is much easier when you use a quality makeup. You don’t even need to be a mua. Anyway, if you only have a bunch of drugstore makeup, then take a visit to the department store. And no, not to buy all the products you need do your makeup. But to have your makeup done by professionals and on the budget, although with luxury makeup.
Remember, Department store. Believe me; it’s way much cheaper having your makeup done at the Dior Makeup corner than at the beauty parlour. Not only the makeup artist will do your makeup with luxury products, but you will also get a short makeup course, too. And that is for the half of price of the makeup at the beauty parlour.
8# Do your own hair
I’m sure you know how to make a bun and clip your hair well enough to say you have your hair up. You know what I mean. White tie dress code calls for hair updo. You can let your hair down when you are attending black tie event. Anyway, if you are like me, and barely know how to do a ponytail and a ballerina bun, then a nice headband can save your look. Check my favourite headbands in the gallery bellow.
9) Shop online and save money with my tips for online shopping here
Luckily the sale season has just started and all the shopping worthy online stores (Farfetch, Net-a-porter, My Theresa, Luisa via Roma, Nordstrom etc.) are having crazy sales now. Ps. Net-a-porter is up to -50% right now!!! Which is rare and we love it! So let’s get shopping.
